Interview of Reuben Maestas Professional Fitness Trainer
Yancey Zeke Perras

My motivation to enter the Met-Rx World's Best Personal Trainer Contest came from my desire to try to better my way of life mentally and physically at the same time. This was also the reason that I became a personal trainer. By training myself and others, it gives me the opportunity to live a healthy and active lifestyle, while also enabling me to teach other fitness enthusiast and clients what I have learned through personal experience and study.

I set out with one thing in mind, and that was to get in the best shape of my life, while having just three months to do so. I wanted to lose body-fat while gaining lean muscle mass, and reduce my body-fat from 15% to 2%. The key to my transformation was a good balance of weight training and cardiovascular exercise, while adhering to a strict diet. Also, the superb supplement line of Met-Rx helped a great deal throughout all aspects of my program. At the end of the three-month transformation period, I had reduced my body-fat by 9%, while losing 14lbs of fat and gaining 7lbs of muscle. I accomplished this by training with weights five days per week & performing cardiovascular exercise 3-4 times per week for 30-45 minutes.

Without question, the most critical element of my training was my nutrition. From a professional standpoint, I learned how important a clean diet, along with supplementation and a proper balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates truly is to reaching your physical peak. Personally, I gained a greater understanding as to how much dedication and sacrifice it takes to design and maintain a beneficial nutritional program.

This experience has had an enormous impact on my life. I've learned that hard work, consistency, and perseverance can guide you to reach your goals in the gym and in life, and this is what I try to convey to my clients. Whatever you want to accomplish is truly just within your reach, you just have to go out and get it.

I would like to thank ISSA for educating me how to properly train others and myself while at the same time helping me to live a better life. I would also like to thank Met-Rx for giving me the opportunity to participate in their contest. Lastly, I would like to thank my wife Jessika for being my greatest source of support throughout this contest and throughout life.
